fall porch...evolved

remember this post?

yeah.
the non-fall, fall porch

well, take a look at the new evolution.
(notice the new orange added...)

yes.
the girls won out.

thoughts?
opinions?
"told you so's"?

the girls won out...fall dining room table.

that's right.
the girls won out.

they got their orange...red, yellow.

whatever.

i can't be a mean mom
after all.

 so what do you think?
i'd say it's pretty true to me,
barring the sprig of orange, but
i figure.
i can't let the girls have a warped childhood, right?
yeah.
that's what i was thinking...

help me out here.
did i pull it off?

hope so.

so that's the dining room.
tell me about yours...

fall porch: fayetteville style

out here in the south,
come fall,
peeps decorate.

simple fact.

no pressure.

really.

so did i spend 2 hours in hobby lobby
scouring the aisles for
non-fall fall decor?

i know.
misnomer.
tend to decorate in whites,
blacks and greens.
(see visual above)

much to my children's chagrin,
they are still complaining,
that they got jipped.

i guess jipped they are.

still.

i trudge on.

no matter the season,
i tend to stick with the same palette.

i guess i need to get out of my comfort zone,
yet still i sit.

in my comfort zone.

just like to keep it simple:
black burlap,
green gords,
white and metallic pumpkins.

non-fall fall.

guess i'm not the typical fall
decor zhusher.

tell me how you spruce up the place?
would love to hear about it.

Knock, Knock...Who's There? Spring, Is That You?

Temperature is on the rise.
Giddy up!
You know what that tells me?

Time for some color.
Time for pop,
(and I'm not talking soda, here, ladies).

Talking about two things:
wardrobe and living space.

So here was my idea...

Remember this post?

My latest inspiration?
My latest obsession, delight and craze?

Oh yeah.
Stripes.

Been itching to add a new mix to the living room.
Hello interiors A.D.D.

Enter sewing machine and
extra fabric laying around.
Give me a day with nothing on the schedule
and hello new pillows.

Hello, spring.
Welcome, welcome.
Make yourself at home!

This was the "winter" look.
Don't worry.
Only stashed the pillows in
another room for now.

So the living room went from this...

See more here

To this...

It's true.
Not a ton of color.
But just enough for me.

Oh, do tell me
what you think?

Ice Ice Baby

Brrrrr.

This is me
at o'dark thirty
taking pictures of
why Fairfax County Schools
are closed today.

This is what our window looked like.
No,
this is not a "rain effect"
window panel.

Goodness me.

As you know,
the Brookes fam
is NOT, I repeat,
NOT
veterans to this
winter wonderland.

See that shiny street?

Yeah...
that one there.

That's a whole lot of ice ice baby.

Not good for taking Homer for his morning business.

Also not good for drivers coming home from work
after working all night long.

This is what car looked like when hubby came home
from night shift.

Can you say
freezing rain?

The good man I married grabbed the
handy dandy snow shovel
and got to work right away on the driveway.
What a good man I've got.

Did I mentioned he's been at work all night?
Really hard, intense, national security work.

Boy, do I love that guy.

Yeah.
Yeah.
I know,
all my sunny San Diego friends
keep telling me about their 80 degree days.

Crud-muffins.

Leave a comment and tell me how deeply you feel for the
icy people on the East Coast.
