Drop Cloth Sectional-- going bye bye

Exhibit A:

This sectional has seen it's day.
Hate to say it, but it's got to go.

Was generously given to us
when we moved into our new empty house

The burgundy chenille was not cutting it.
I knew I had to "re-invent" our new FREE furniture.

So I rolled up my sleeves and attempted
my first go at a slip cover, piping and all!

After one phone-call-tutorial from my trusty sis-in-law
I went to town.

Wasn't bad for my first attempt.

Now, after several slip covers later,
a new attitude and a small budget...
Mamma lookin' for a new sectional.

Here are a few I've got my eye on.

Tell me what you think.

Mastad Sectional Sofa Bed & Storage
Ikea

$699
Ektorp Loveseat and Chaise Lounge
$699

Blake Sectional
West Elm

$999-$1989

So what do you think?

  1. I love all three. I like the last one the best, but I like the price of the other two better. I think the first on looks more like your modern style. I have a couch slip covered in gray velvet. I didn't realize how much I was going to have to vacuum it. The gray shows every speck of lint. I'm sure whatever you pick it will look fab.

  2. I like the one from West Elm, but the one from Ikea that turns into a sofa bed is pretty handy! Is that something you would use?

  3. That Ektrop just looks so darn comfy doesn't it?? I used to have a pullout for guests but it didn't cut the mustard. I have found that having an air mattress and a regular couch is the way to go. Just because sleepers are SO heavy to move and in the end aren't (usually) that comfortable. But that's just my 2 cents.... :)

  4. My vote goes to the sectional from West Elm. For guests get an Aero, they have a Queen with two mattresses on top of each other. Makes it so much easier for getting in an out of, an so much more comfortable.

  5. Are you planning to stick with the style you have going on now? Arhaus has really nice styles of sectionals. You style kind of reminds me of the style you see in their showroom.

  6. Yes, LOVE Arhaus...sale anytime soon?

  7. I vote the West Elm sectional! The Ektorp is nice, too. Both would go with just about anything.

  8. Wendy, we are on the same wavelength today! I was looking at sectionals for the rec. room all morning. I was looking at the Ikea Karlstad in dark gray. I don't like the legs but they could always be painted black. Here is the link:

I like your choices too, especially west elm.

  9. okay don't hate me, but i say go for broke and check out the sectionals at room and board. way better than ikea in quality. [ditched an ikea couch less than 2 years after the purchase].

however, i bought a couch made by baker 16 years ago and to this day i still love it along with the memory of meeting my grandmother at bloomingdales/59th street to pick it out....ox

  10. You did a great job with your slipcovered sofa!! Wow, I am impressed. I love all of your choices for a new sofa but I agree with the girl before me: Splurge for a quality sofa if you can. I have an Ikea sofa in my guest bedroom and the slipcover shrunk the first time I washed it in cold water and hung it to dry. It was still a steal for the money though! Good luck!

  11. West Elm. The others look a little softer in the lines ... more "first home" look. Maybe because every room in my first three houses had something from Ikea. :) Would depend if you would do your slipcover magic or keep the original covering? Decisions, decision. Enjoy the process!

  12. I like the first one and the one from west elm. I think I am drawn to the charcoal of #1, but the west elm style. Good luck!
