Creating a Delightful Guest Room

Our First House Guest

As my family readies ourselves for our first house guest
we are abuzz with excitement

Grag is coming.
(that's my mom...
the lady honored in this post).

I want to make her stay as comfortable as possible.

Here are some things I think about when I have her or any guest over:

Make it personal:
My mom has an occasional sweet tooth.
What better way to combat that but with a Hershey Nugget
*see urn filled with those silver wrapped squares.

Mom also loves to sneak away and play Sudoku, easy edition.

Stock the space with simple delights:
water,
current magazines,
fresh linens

Make sure the bed has "good night's sleep" written all over it:
think thread count,
goose down
and billowy

Remember the little things:
Forget something?
No problem...
We gotcha covered

Create a luxury environment:
We've got a robe and slippers waiting for you.

Always finish up with fresh flowers:

What is something YOU do to make guests feel welcome in your home?

  1. HI Wendy,

Enjoy your mom's visit. Hope you have good weather.

As for when we have guests, we have a guestbook to have them sign before they leave. It's fun to see who's visited us @ our different duty stations.

FYI, in the future you might want to check having your mom fly into BWI. Southwest has great rates and even a nonstop flight from San Diego. Might be a bit longer drive but w/cheap fares, she might be able to come out more often.

    Chat soon,
    Lisa

  2. Lisa,
I love the guest book idea. Might have to copy cat ya, dirty rat ya. Love it, especially with all the duty stations. If only I had started this earlier...no time like the present, right?
Thank you, yet again for the comment and for visiting the blog.

    Now off to the airport.
    Ciao,
    Wendy

  4. Wow you are the "hostess with the mostest." When can I come and be your house guest? :) I have yet to visit DC.
My parents are coming at the end of the month so I will "steal" some of your great ideas.

  5. Cyndi,
Would love to hear how YOU welcomed your parents...how was it received? Sometimes the best thank you is simply your guests reactions. Would love to hear more.

  6. hey there. just stumbled upon this post and loved it. your home is ALWAYS so inviting, warm and lovely—a real treat.

by now i'm sure you've headed to BWI for pickups. when we go we've been making it into an adventure. if you haven't already, be sure to check out these two great restaurants: b&o [inside the hotel monaco] and woodbury kitchens. and of course there is the baltimore aquarium [head and shoulders above the one in dc]. . .
